Dr Siara Teelucksingh
FOUNDER

CONSULTANT OBSTETRIC PHYSICIAN
Dr Siara Teelucksingh graduated in Medicine from the University of the West Indies St Augustine campus in 2011.
She completed her internship at Port-of-Spain General Hospital in 2012 and worked for another 4 years in Internal Medicine in Trinidad before moving to the United Kingdom to pursue her postgraduate training.
She completed her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2017 an Doctor of Medicine (MD) in General Internal Medicine in 2018.
She undertook her postgraduate training in Acute and General Internal Medicine in the London Deanery and completed the Fellowship and Diploma of Obstetric Medicine at St Thomas’ Hospital in 2022.
Siara is now Consultant Physician in Acute & General Internal Medicine at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London and is Co-Lead Obstetric Physician at the South West London and Surrey Heartlands Maternal Medicine Network.
Siara’s commitment to global health led her to found WISOM, to enhance the way medical problems in pregnancy are treated in the West Indies.

Dr Adesh Sirjusingh
GOVERNANCE LEAD
Dr Adesh Sirjusingh is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has been the Director, in the Directorate of Women’s Health at the Ministry of Health since 2017.
He has over 33 years experience as a medical doctor and in health administration.
His work in the public health system has been at various levels including as a lecturer with the University of the West Indies, a Specialist Medical Officer and a Medical Chief of Staff.
His main current work has focussed on reducing maternal and neonatal Morbidity and Mortality.
In 2023, he received the Anthony N Sabga Caribbean award for his public and civic contributions.

Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy
SENIOR CLINICAL ADVISOR
Catherine Nelson-Piercy is a Consultant Obstetric Physician at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and the Lead Obstetric Physician for the South East London Maternal Medicine Network.
In 2010 she was awarded the title of Professor of Obstetric Medicine at King’s College London. Her undergraduate studies were at King’s College, Cambridge University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. She trained as a physician, and was taught Obstetric Medicine by Professor Michael de Swiet.
Professor Nelson-Piercy is past President of the International Society of Obstetric Medicine (ISOM). She was founding co-editor in chief of the journal ‘Obstetric Medicine: the medicine of pregnancy.’
Professor Nelson-Piercy is a member of the NHS England expert group that developed the Networked model for maternal medicine and has been involved in the development of several evidence-based National Guidelines; notably the RCOG Green top guidelines on “Reducing the risk of thromboembolism during pregnancy, birth & the puerperium” and ‘Management of nausea vomiting of pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarum”.
She has over 280 publications, has edited five books and has written the successful Handbook of Obstetric Medicine, now in its sixth edition. She is also one of the central physician assessors for the UK Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths.

Dr Melanie Nana
SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR
Melanie Nana is a diabetes and endocrinology SpR and NIHR Research Training Fellow currently studying the metabolic consequences of children born to women with severe Hyperemesis Gravidarum at King’s College London.
In 2020 she undertook the obstetric medicine fellowship and diploma at St Thomas’ Hospital where she was taught obstetric medicine by Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy.
Melanie has several publications relating to obstetric medicine including the largest study exploring the lived-experience of women with hyperemesis gravidarum, a BMJ ‘State of the Art Review’ on COVID-19 in pregnancy. She has publications in endocrine and liver disease in pregnancy.
